Portobello Brown Tweed Cardigan is as cozy as a hug. It is silky soft and is hand knit of a fine merino wool / alpaca / Donegal tweed yarn. There is no scratchiness or coarseness to this sweater. The mid-weight fabric has a wonderful drape and a comfortable, broken-in look to it already. There is no stiffness with this sweater as there are with some. The sweater is generously sized to fit comfortably. .

A favorite feature of this sweater is its color. It is the mottled brown of a Portobello mushroom with complementary brown, black and cream colored slubs throughout. The neutral shade of the sweater coordinates particularly well with khaki, black, charcoal and all shades of denim.  Some photos were lightened somewhat to show stitching details.

The Portobello Brown Cardigan has a V-neck and two set-in pockets with ribbed detailing along their tops. It fastens with seven naturally colored coconut shell buttons that coordinate perfectly with the dark and light shades in the sweater. The dark brown color and lighter speckles on the buttons mirror the colors of the tweed slubs present in the yarn which bring the two materials together quite nicely. Coconut buttons are a natural, renewable resource item. Ultimately, they are biodegradable.

This cardigan is knit using a DK weight yarn which is finer than worsted weight and therefore has more stitches per square inch. The fabric is often softer and more flexible as well.
